What oud is
Formed in agarwood trees as a reaction to a fungal infection, oud is a dark, resinous wood that smells deep, smoky and slightly animalic. Perfumers place oud in the base, where it supplies a dark, resinous woodiness. It is often paired with rose, saffron, amber, incense and musk, and can be softened with sweeter notes such as vanilla.
